Trouble does not start with a T, it starts with an M, for Max.

I had a conversation with Max about his attitude lately, he's been just shy of misbehaving. I'd like to think he understood me but in reality I realize he didn't. Am I the only one who has conversations with their pet? When my husband isn't around, I tell Max all my secrets because let's face it. Whose he gonna tell? I know my secret is safe with him and he never passes judgement. This is why pets are invaluable to me. The feeling of peace and love I get from them is worth every dime I have to spend to keep them healthy. So when I heard on the news that in this economy people are giving up their pets I just had to say "HOLD ON A SECOND"! There are other things that I would give up like cable, cell phones, and movies before I gave up my dog. I made a commitment to be responsible for this animal's life and I intend to follow through on that not because I have to but because I want to. That's my rant for today, you may now feel free to go about your day.
Hey mama. Just hanging out behind the chair, nothing wrong here, no ma'am. Guilty? Not me, I didn't do anything, nope, nothing going on here at all.
We have been teaching Max to wait until we give him permission to do things. So we put treats on the floor right next to him and make him sit there until we are ready to release him. I love that no matter how badly he wants that treat on the floor, he won't look at it. He will just stare at us until we release him.

As crazy as he can drive me sometimes, I can't help but love him. My weakness? Max.

Oh good Lord, what day is this? Where am I? How did I get here and other things people say when they forgot what they were talking about...

GHOST CHILDREN OF THE OFFICE - Don't Fast Eddie and Michelle look like they are haunting the building? This is how we punish people at the office. We make you stand outside in the hot sun while we eat ice cream inside.

I have lost all sense of time. Off for 4 days and I am now too stupid to function. How did they handle time in the old days? I am so used to having computers, phones, watches, clocks everywhere telling me what time and what day it is, so how did they get stuff done in the old west? If you were going to say, meet a friend for lunch, when you were done plowing the field, how did you know what time to be there? Did you have to look at the position of the sun and thus burn your retinas? Did you just show up when you were hungry? What about Birthdays? If there was no calendar hanging up on the wall, how did you know when to bake a cake? Did school just start whenever they got there? I guess there were no tardies back then. Don't you ever wish you could go back in time just to find out this small stuff? I do, all the time. But just for a couple of hours because any longer and I would probably end up dead from sheer stupidity.

I would not be one of those people you want on a deserted island, trust me. I'm not really good with manual labor or building a radio out of a coconut. I can't build anything, I can't grow anything, I can't even sew a button. I'd be Gilligan. Not only would I never survive but I wouldn't want to. Which reminds me of the time H, Little Gay R and I were wondering what it would be like to be the last 3 people left on earth and what we would do. While H and I talked about where we would live, what we would gather to eat, Little Gay R decided he would go sightseeing. Because he has never seen the Grand Canyon or a beautiful beach so why not go in the off season? This is why H and I talked about killing him if it we were the last 3 left 'cause who wouldn't get irritated with some tourist taking pictures while we were trying to SURVIVE? Can you imagine having to look at his slide show while we are running out of food and water? Never once did we ask ourselves why on earth we would even be the last 3 people on earth.

I had absolutely no intention of writing about this when I got here and look at how easily I have gone off rambling about trivial shit. Welcome to the inner workings of my mind. No wonder my husband has selective hearing. Which reminds me. Little Red and I were talking about this boy she likes and oh, how she would turn a lovely shade of red if she saw this post. This boy, let's call him Rico Suave, is her first real "like" and they "made out" before she left for this visit. She is 17! While we were sitting in the dining room discussing boys and all that implies, Mr. Selective hearing over in the living room is all "WHAT? WHAT DOES MAKING OUT MEAN?!". Why, when I ask him to take the trash out, he tells me "I didn't hear you" but this he hears? Eavesdrop much? I need to find some time alone with Little Red to dish the dirt and let her know about boys. I'm quite sure it will go in one ear and out the other but I have to let her know or else I wouldn't be doing my duty.

Again, where am I going with THE POST THAT WILL NEVER END END END. Frankly, I see no end in sight and the more you complain, the longer it's going to get. We finally had thunder storms last night and we did what the trainer asked us to do. We took Max outside in the thunder and made him sit there with us. How unpleasant do you think this was for all 4 of us? We finally had to come back in when raindrops the size of pumpkins started to fall from the sky. We did this twice to make him face his fear and to help him realize that nothing bad will happen when thunder comes. I don't know if it helped, but it was thundering this morning and he was sound asleep, along with Big Red when I left for work. I can only hope that repeating this process will help him overcome his fear. I didn't feel good about doing it and I wanted to scoop him up in my arms and comfort him, but I held back and let him sort it out. Being a dog mom sucks sometimes.

Allow me to leave you with this picture I took yesterday at one of my favorite pizza places. I realize spelling and pluralization are not that important to you when you are probably only making $6 an hour but surely a manager wouldn't want this out on display for all to snicker at. It made me giggle. If anyone is still awake after reading this War and Peace of a post I wish I had something rewarding to leave you with but I don't. Hope you all had a lovely holiday and since I am only here for 3 days this week I am quite sure I will be back to waste more time. I am a spectacular time waster if I do say so myself.

I'm easy like a Sunday Morning

May I just start this post by saying "It wasn't me!". For once, this wayward bicycle does not belong to me. Big Red was doing some speeding around a curve and look what happens kids. Don't let this happen to you. Thankfully, he was okay and jumped off but I am sad to say his bicycle did not make it. He is now sitting at his computer trying to find a place here that sells replacement rims because neither Target or The Academy does. May I also remind you that we shop at Costco, therefore, the gigantic package of toilet paper. We are all human, people.

We decided to take Max to the park to chase his ball (he chased it, not us) and he had a blast running like the wind. He looks like such a happy dog here, doesn't he? It was beautiful out this morning and we enjoyed relaxing out at the park on a blanket.
He played hard so he took the time for a break as well. It may have been a nice day outside but Max is wearing a fur coat so he had to replenish his water after every chase.
He is getting so good with commands like "leave it" that no matter how much he wants a cookie, he will wait until we give him permission to eat it. I'm so proud of him today, he did so well and we loved being able to take him out with us.
Max was actually calm enough for us to take him out to brunch with us. We were able to sit outside and drink our coffee and eat breakfast while he relaxed next to the table. It was quite the relaxing father's day for my husband and we really enjoyed spending the day relaxing like this. Have I mentioned it was relaxing?

Spoiler Alert!

Did I ever tell you I had the biggest crush on Tom Hanks? Ever since Bosom Buddies, remember that T.V. show? I really adored him when he started being the romantic lead with Meg Ryan in all those When Harry met Sleepless in Seattle movies. Whatever happened to Meg Ryan? She got the big lips and then I never saw her again. Perhaps she was plastic surgery gone wrong and she has gone in to hiding. All I know is I still heart Tom. Don't you think it's funny when people say "Alls I know...". Is that an accent thing?

Anyway, tonight was date night for Big Red and I and it was fun. We went to dinner and a movie. Olive Garden and Angels and Demons and I thoroughly enjoyed both. It had been such a long time since we have been on a Saturday night date night and we had fun. We also managed to squeeze in a little shopping for me at The Rim. Angels and Demons was very exciting and fast paced but I have to say I remember a few things differently from the book. It has been a couple of years since I read the book but now I have to go dig it out of our collection so I can refresh my memory. All I remembered for sure when the movie started was the carmelengo was the bad guy. Awww, did I ruin it for you? Sorry.
Today was Max's first lesson with our dog trainer and he did really well. He pitched a fit when the trainer took his leash but Ian was very patient and worked through it. We are taking Max on a long walk tomorrow morning to use some of the techniques he showed us. He slept pretty hard after the trainer left but then so did I. I love me my naps on Saturday. I think this lesson was harder on me than Max because he was giving me those puppy dog eyes when he was trying to get away from Ian as if to say "Mama help!". My hope for Max is that he will be happier and less anxiety ridden once he is trained. I can't say the same for me though.

Houdini lives!

What the hell? Big Red calls me yesterday at work to tell me "I thought you locked Max in the house when you left?!" Uh...I did. HE WAS OUT! What the? The doggy door was down and the doors and windows were locked! We were quite puzzled by this. We think he figured out how to push up the doggy door and slip under it. How do you contain a dog that is too smart for his own good? He pawed and chewed through the back gate and was out faster than Houdini. Do you know my stomach hurts when I think about how anxiety ridden and stressed he must feel? Thank goodness I didn't have kids because I worry enough about this dog. Do I need to quit my job and be a stay at home dog mom? Maybe he has grown thumbs and can now open doors. Lord, it was a Monday.

Today, I am already in my office and my hair isn't brushed, my cell phone is in the red, my gas tank is empty and I am having honey roasted peanuts and Diet Dr. Pepper for breakfast. What is wrong with me? I am usually much more put together than this, I swear. It may just be this time of the year. I am working on budgets, trying to close out a fiscal year and just realized my finance assistant is off today and my boss will be off for the next three days. Do you think it will be a peaceful and relaxed day? Do you think if I could go back in time I would pick another career besides accounting? I almost did but that's a story for another time. I can't go in to it now because I have just worked myself up in to a frenzy. I am going to do 5 minutes of meditation (medication would be better) and start my day. No pressure.

Ladies and Gentlemen...

Please allow me to introduce you to Max's latest love...Kirby the blue blob. May Hildy the Hedgehog rest in peace. Lord, please let this one last longer than all the rest. We may have to take out a second mortgage to keep Max in his toys.

Yes, this is now a dog blog, get over it!

Okay, so how fucking cute is this picture of Max holding on to his stuffed squirrel?! Notice how he slept with one eye open, always on guard over Pooter (the squirrel). He used to carry this thing around with him constantly until we finally had to throw it away because Nani ripped the shit out of it in a jealous rage. Left the cotton guts spread all over the living room one day and we had to console Max with a new toy.

Max with the latest love of his life, Hildy the Hedgehog. May they live a long and happy life together, at least until Nani gets a hold of it.
